On Sunday 26th October 2014, The Vintage Furniture Flea comes to Marylebone.

Brought to you by Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair (Britain’s biggest vintage fair), The Vintage Furniture Flea brings over 50 interior and homeware traders to London’s West End.

The idea behind the Flea is simple: gather eclectic vintage traders from all over the world, check them for affordability and set-up shop in Marylebone, for one day. The Flea celebrates the kitsch to the collectible, from Scandi minimalism to statement textiles and prints; sideboards and book cases, glass and ceramics, crockery and fabrics, radios, record players and posters, providing customers with a unique time travelling experience.

Voted ‘Best Vintage Fair’ by the Vintage Guide to London and featured in Stylist and Timeout, Flea founder Judy Berger attributes success to a shift in money and mindset of the customer; “once upon a time, shoppers wanted convenience, however, nowadays, shoppers are looking for something to invest in. If an Englishman’s home is his castle, he (or she) wants it to be unique, chic and incredibly good quality.”

The Vintage Furniture Flea

Open: Earlybird: 10:30, General: 11:00-16:30
Entry: Earlybird – £3, General – £2

Sunday 26th October 2014

Opening on the Friday of Frieze weekend at Imitate Modern, “DIGITAL ADDICTION” is artist Raymond Salvatore Harmon’s first limited edition print series, created from composite layers of paintings, 3D modelling HTML5 panorama and collage.

The result is a unique series of prints with extraordinary depth as Salvatore Harmon explores society’s addiction to digital technology through a manipulation of fragmented shards and imagery reminiscent of computer graphics.

This print series continues the themes and influences of Harmon’s recent work: the pitfalls of modern society, and the resulting socio-economic and political issues. It follows on from his largest architectural-scale installation to date: the exterior of a five storey, 4000sqft food bank in Lower Silesia, Poland.

Imitate Modern, 27a Devonshire Street, Marylebone, W1G 6PN.

Charitable students at DLD College London from both the Marylebone and Belgravia campuses have come together to host a 5-a-side football tournament, and have raised over £600 in much-needed funds for the Chileleko Community School in Zambia, Africa.

Over 60 students and teachers took part in the tournament, which was held at the Westways Sport Centre. The hard-fought final was between teacher’s team, the DLD All Stars and student team, Steps Utd, with the students scraping a 2-1 victory.

Chileleko Community School can teach up to 300 pupils, but attendance has fallen dramatically due to much-needed repairs and structural work. Parents believe that if their children will not receive a good education due to a lack of resources and facilities, it is not worth the children walking 6km to school when they could be helping with work and providing for the family at home.

The money raised will go towards buying new books and desks for the school as well as desperately needed repairs such as new paint and refurbishment of the floors and windows.

Principal at DLD College London, Rachel Borland, said of the event: “I am delighted our inspiring students have come together in aid of Chileleko Community School and have managed to […] help to provide a better learning environment for the children.”

Opso, an all-day Greek restaurant and bar, is opening in the centre of Marylebone at the end of May.

The two-tier eatery will open on 10 Paddington Street, the former spot of Ping Pong Dim Sum and is the creation of Greek-English entrepreneur Andreas Labridis, and architect and gastronome Dimitris Karampatakis.

Labridis, who will take on the role of general manager, said of the venture: “Opso is the culmination of almost two years of hard work, combining our Greek upbringing with a shared love of London.”

Opso delivers the tastes, produce and communal dining of Greece to cosmopolitan Londoners at appropriate prices. Breakfast will begin at 8am during the week, the all-day menu will offer classical Greek dishes such as Hortopia: a home-made short-crust pie of seasonable greens and feta with snails, chips and served with bacon and sherry vinegar – an homage to the classic British fish and chips. The dessert menu will range from simple Greek yogurt with sour cherries and lime to more complex traditional pastry dishes.

In the evenings the front area the corner-situated restaurant will become a bar serving a series of traditional and spirited cocktails, as well as a regularly updated series of single-origin coffees and teas.

On warmer days there will also be street-front, al fresco dining for up to 40 covers.

Opso will join a strong Greek community in Marylebone – sharing the same street as both events venue the Hellenic Centre and existing Greek restaurant The Real Greek, whilst being a stone’s throw from recently opened restaurant Ergon.

Opso Restaurant and Bar opens late May 2014 at 10 Paddington Street, W1.
