Les 110 de Taillevent is impressive before you even step inside. Occupying a beautiful building in Marylebone’s Cavendish Square, the facade opens up into a spacious interior, with extra high ceilings and glamorous bar towards the back of the restaurant.

With its name being a reference to the extensive collection of wines available, the originally Parisian restaurant that has seen the likes of Brad Pitt and Vladimir Putin as its guests has been open in London since October 2015.

A quick look at the menu and you will soon get to see first hand how many wines are on offer by the glass. But don’t be overwhelmed – working your way down the menu, run your finger horizontally to each side and you will find a recommended wine suggestion to accompany every course on the menu. In addition to the intuitive menu the restaurant’s UK managing director, Nicola Munari, was on hand to make recommendations and he was of the most impressive hosts we have had the pleasure of coming across at a Marylebone restaurant for a while, with his passion and knowledge for food and wine making him a great asset to Les 110 de Taillevent.

After enjoying a glass of Laurent Perrier to start, the food we enjoyed throughout the evening was nothing short of brilliant, and the wine recommendations to accompany each course perfectly complimenting our choices.

Between myself and my company for the evening we enjoyed the cornish crab with remoulade, dill and fennel, a pea veloute with radish, baby gem, pea ice cream and mint, and lastly the wild sea bass à la plancha served with green asparagus, shellfish and pasta bucatinni. We would order all of these dishes again in a flash, with the 2013 glass of Ajaccio ‘Grannit’ from the Domaine de Vaccelli in Corsica being a particular favourite from the glasses of wine we enjoyed.

Despite not having ordered it, we were asked how we felt about trying some lobster in between our start and our main. I imagine this is an offer very few have ever turned down. Soon afterwards, a spelt lobster risotto in a lobster bisque arrived, and was explained as being the winner of the Best in Taste category at the Taste of London. We both looked at each other with joy after tasting, with it being an obvious choice for the award. This dish was certainly one of the highlights of the evening.

Having worked our way through a number of glasses of wine throughout the courses and not looking forward to a 6am alarm for work the next morning, we politely declined anything to accompany dessert but were told we couldn’t possibly miss out on a particular sparkling Italian white wine – how right they were. The glass of G D Vajra 2015 Moscato d’Asti we enjoyed was (fortunately) low in alcohol  at 5.5%, sweet without being sickly and with a gentle sparkle, making it the perfect refreshing accompaniment to our desserts – one rich and tasty chocolate plate with whipped cream, chocolate sablé and chocolate ice cream, and one banana served with maple syrup, walnuts, vanilla and caramel ice cream. What an end to the evening.

Les 110 de Taillevent is a great location for a number of occasions, with the main brasserie, al fresco terrace and a private dining room available for hire. Excellent food, a great selection of wines and top class service – we certainly recommend a visit.

Founder of Marylebone’s Man Made barbers, Dan Gregory beat off razor sharp competition from 14 other barbers to be named the best barber in London.

Dan Gregory, 30, is based at the luxurious Man Made on Marylebone’s George Street, picked up the award after winning the regional final, held at Envy Barbers in Covent Garden on March 29.

As well as winning the coveted regional title, Dan will now go on to compete in the national final against seven other top barbers from across the country at this year’s Barber UK. The two-day barber show takes place at the Birmingham NEC on 21st and 22nd May, and promises to be a bigger and better celebration of British barbering than ever before.

Dan has come a long way since his early days in the industry.

He explained: “I fell into barbering after going for a haircut. The barber was looking for a Saturday boy so I applied and the rest is history. To be crowned the best wet shaving barber in London is a huge achievement and something I’m proud to shout about. But I want to go one step further and win the national final. I can’t wait to get into that boxing ring and show off my skills.”

London Fashion Week is in full swing, so to celebrate ‘Love Your Clothes’ along with Barnardos and Charity Fashion Live are holding free workshops so savvy Londoners can learn how to stay on top of the latest trends whilst sticking to a budget.

‘Love your clothes’ are experts in up-cycling and the customisation of clothes. They’re experts in making fashion more sustainable and aiming to get rid of ‘fast fashion’. UK consumers spend £44 billion per year on clothes, whilst a third of our clothes haven’t been worn in the last year, so sustainability is fast becoming a hot-topic in the fashion sphere.

The workshops are drop-in events that will show attendees tips and tricks when it comes to sewing and customisation. The aim is to show how easy sustainable fashion can be.

The first of the three workshops will be held in Marylebone’s Barnados store on the 25th of February. It will focus on how to be audacious with clothes. Expect to learn how to make make bows, pom-poms and using vintage haberdashery to customise your clothes. With over 30 stores in London, all Londoners have the opportunity to go to their local Barnardos and get a bargain whilst helping make a difference.

Workshops will also be held on the 4th March in Brixton and the 11th of March in Crouch End.

Two Marylebone barbers have made it to the shortlist of a nationwide competition to be crowned the best wet shaving barber in Great Britain.

Dan Gregory, 30 and Joe Easton, 22, both based at Man Made in George Street, will face razor sharp competition from fellow craftsmen near and far in their quest to win the prestigious competition.

Dan and Joe are set to face-off against other top barbers in the London regional final in March. If they’re successful enough to secure a top spot in the regional heat, Dan and Joe will face the most crucial shave of their life at the national final, which will take place inside a boxing ring at Barber UK at the Birmingham NEC on May 21, 2017.

Dan has come a long way since his early days in the industry. He explained: “I fell into barbering after going for a haircut. The barber was looking for a Saturday boy so I applied and the rest is history.”

Joe is a fresher face to the industry, adding: “I fell in love with the art of barbering. Especially shaving, the process of shaving is therapeutic not only for our clients, but for us barbers too!”

Now in its fourth year, the annual competition, run by premium male grooming brand The Bluebeards Revenge and industry watchdogs the British Barbers’ Association, is fast becoming the competition of the barbering industry.

Boutique gym, BXR, has just opened on Marylebone’s Paddington Street. The new rustic and industrial looking gym has a focus on boxing and professional training, its set to be a hit in health and fitness crowd.

BXR say that they are “dedicated to developing the champion mindset”. We’re all looking to get fit and into shape, BXR make that easier by providing the right resources and attitude.

You can expect to see a whole range of professional classes and training methods at BXR. On offer are classes in kickboxing, Muay Thai, cardio and other athletic training. BXR are aiming to provide a bespoke professional service that you wouldn’t expect from most London gyms. They achieve this by having professional resources on tap to customers, such as physiotherapy and sport massages. BXR say their on site clinic provides “all sport science and sports medical services”.

Its clear to see where BXR gets their drive for professionalism by a quick look at their founding committee. Star studded, the committee includes industry professionals and celebrities such as Eddie Hearn, Mark Ronson and Victoria Secret models Sara Sampaio and Maryna Linchuk. Industry professionals aren’t only found on the committee, IBF heavy weight champion Anthony Joshua backs the new venture heavily. Professionals are also found in the clinic, with Dr. Mike Loosemore, one of the worlds boxing injury experts, overlooking all of the clinics operations.

BRX London is on Marylebone’s Paddington Street and is members only.
