The Marylebone nightlife scene is often not given as much recognition as neighbouring Mayfair and Soho, as its reputation is centred on shopping and a selection of top restaurants. However, a number of bars and pubs around Marylebone High Street make Marylebone a perfect location for a night out. Here are a few options…
Pub: The Grazing Goat
Situated on New Quebec Street, just a short stroll from Marble Arch tube, this is one of the best places in Marylebone for after-work drinks. Technically a gastro-pub, it occupies the perfect space between a cosy traditional pub and a relaxing restaurant. The dining room is upstairs, and serves great food, but downstairs at the bar area is the busiest and full of locals, with an extensive list of cocktails and wines. Be warned – this place is very busy in the evenings, especially on the weekends, meaning you will probably have to stand, but luckily it manages to avoid feeling like a rowdy pub. With an elegant but homely interior, The Grazing Goat has an atmosphere suited for all types of occasions, and is the perfect spot to start your evening. As sping approaches, you’ll soon be able to enjoy yourself outside with a G&T on a sunny evening.
The Hyatt Regency Hotel in Portman Square has one of London’s most sophisticated bars and terraces. Heated all year round with blankets and cosy seating, the private terrace does have a minimum spend of £25 per person after 4pm, but this is unsurprising for such an elegant hotel in such a perfect location. Originally designed with a young Winston Churchill and his wife Clementine in mind, guests can enjoy exquisite surroundings both inside and out, with subtle references to Churchill’s taste in art and literature. More importantly, there is a dazzling selection of signature cocktails. The Trafalgar Sour and The Churchill Martini are among the best, and as you can probably tell, the menu has a strong British theme, combining unique flavours with the finest of spirits. This is a top spot in Marylebone to enjoy impeccable service and a relaxing atmosphere, and perhaps even a cigar on the terrace in true Churchill style.
Right around the corner, recent opening Bonbonniere on Orchard Street is a decadent nightclub in the very heart of Marylebone. For those of you who like to stay out slightly later, or are looking for somewhere to head after a late dinner, this is the place to go! Designed by the team behind The Armani Hotel, the interior is undeniably extravagant; the nightclub is heavily inspired by the infamous Fabergé Egg, with a centrally located Fabergé Egg DJ booth framed by shelves of mini equivalents, and is host to a luxurious sweet shop. This eccentric spot has fast become a celebrity haunt, offering one of the most decadent cocktail menus in London that manages to brilliantly combine the finest quality Russian vodka’s with champagnes and sweet liquors.
Open until 3am and hosting a number of events on the weekend, it’s ideal for those wanting a livelier alternative and somewhere to have a dance.
Elsewhere in London…
Inception Group seem to be taking the capital by storm. Their collection of bar, restaurant and club concepts includes Barts, Mr Fogg’s, Maggies and Bunga Bunga.
Most recently, they’ve added Beaver Lodge to the list as their latest club venue on Fulham Road. A recent visit by the Marylebone Online team left us all wanting more as soon as we stepped inside the cabin bar and dance saloon based on the log cabins found in places such as Jackson Hole, Wyoming ‘The Cowboy State’, U.S.A. Think Bulleit Bourbon, cheerleaders, line dancing staff and a whole host of other fun. Definitely worth a visit.
