As reported last year, the Marylebone Library has moved to a temporary location on Beaumont Street as part of a planned £12 million development on Luxborough Street. The new development has finally been given approval by the panning committee at Westminster Borough Council.
The new purpose built library will comprise of nine new flats to help offset the cost of the development, with the aim of creating a library for modern community needs. It will have dedicated children services, lending services, a café, a computer suite, meeting rooms for local groups and access to wider council services. The new library should be completed in 2015.
This is the centrepiece of the council’s wider long-term plan for services in the area, unlocking £10 million of investment towards areas across Marylebone. In the meantime the old site of the library at Old Marylebone Town Hall has been leased to London Business School as part of a £60 million deal.
More information about the plans can be found on Westminster City Council’s website.
