Kusmi Tea

Kusmi TeasWith pride of place on Marylebone High Street, Kusmi Tea has come to London to change the way we look at tea. Away with the traditional, British looking dull packaging and in with the bright, vibrant colours. As an already well-established brand in Paris, Kusmi Tea’s history spans 140 years, coming all the way from streets of St Petersburg and starting as a small tea house – a rich history that is reflected in the quality of the tea.

Entering its six month on our high street, the store is busy and selling a wide range of tea – over 70 varieties to be exact. Chances are, you’ll find one you like. The bestsellers are the detox teas – editor Alex is planning on going back to try some to aid his health kick!

We visited Kusmi Tea to sample some of their tea and food in the tearoom tucked away at the back of the store. Calm and quiet, this is an ideal little spot to have a pot of tea and do whatever you please (especially with free Wi-Fi access). There are tea experts on hand to guide you through the endless options and even pair your tea with a suitable sweet food option – some of the options including eclairs and cakes.

Tea TimerThe brewing process is an art – the tea sits in special pots whilst sand timers tell you how long to brew for. The ‘Traktir’ and ‘Irish Blend’ teas that we each chose both needed 4 minutes in the pot. We were also both paired a dessert with our teas – myself being allocated the Passion Fruit Mousse whilst Alex received a rich White Chocolate and Raspberry Cheesecake. The process behind pairing tea with dessert remains a mystery to us, but we can confirm they both complimented each other perfectly!

Neither of us would consider ourselves tea experts by any stretch of the imagination, but they were tasty even to the unsophisticated tea palette. The Traktir tea is a mix of slightly smokey China black teas flavoured with essences of citrus and spices, whilst the Irish Blend contained a warm mix of black indian teas and was so good plain that Alex even refrained from adding milk – much to the delight of the Kusmi Tea staff.

It would be extremely easy to whittle away a few hours here, watching the high street go by from the colourful interior of the store and it is a definite safe bet for Christmas gift buying success – which tea lover wouldn’t be pleased with a box of Kusmi Tea?
